Breads, Croissants, Rolls and Baguettes

I added tons of bakery items to my online shop.
Well technically "tons" is a little exaggerated.

On another note, Etsy now has shop stats (well maybe they have them a little longer but I just discovered them) and I realized with a shock than my sales are steadily dropping since March. And when I say dropping, I mean it. I hardly sell there anymore.
I'm unsure what to do about that, especially since listing and renewing on Etsy is quite expensive on the long run (and in particular when you list/renew 5-6 items per day like I do).

Of couse I don't work a lot for Etsy, I never look at the treasuries I'm in, because it turned in so much work it's just impossible to keep up. And frankly I get bored looking at 10 treasuries per day. So my chance on arriving on FP are now egal to 0.
Maybe it's also because Etsy is now pretty crowded.
I really don't know. Did you experience something similar?

That's also why I'm listing "massively" on my own online shop right now:

Well I can't complain that I don't sell, I have other venues, like Dawanda, and wholesale to boutiques, but Etsy used to be my biggest venue and now it seems to be the one where I sell the less.
With almost 200 items in my shop it's a little annoying to say the list.

And to end on a more positive note (because I'm not really down, just astonished) I went to the sea yesterday! And we ate some sandwiches, hair in the wind and sun on the skin :)

xx,
Stéphanie

  2. Rock bottom saleswise, luckily it its not just me. My new policy is to ignore etsy completely. Saves a lot of money.....

  3. I had not seen this feature until you just pointed it out. OMG! My sales have been dropping since March as well! maybe Etsy has changed some search options or something and that has affected our shop visits? I don't really undertand what is happening.. but I am sad (and a little worried)

  4. Inger < just in case you're popping in again (but I think I'll pm you): do you still list/renew on Etsy? Or did you even stop that? Or just sporadically?

    Merci Barbara :)

ChocoMint < don't be :) maybe try other venues like Dawanda or something more local.

  5. Woah, a new feature! *checks stats*

Yyyyeaaaah, my sales have been ridiculously low since April. I had noticed it, I suppose, but not very heartening to see it black on white. :/ Fortunately I too have other venues.

  6. Bread, my favourite as you can figure!
By the way, I was very pleased to meet you at the Simp and by the way, also my sales on etsy are a bit less than in the past, may be because the sellers are growing and the buyers are always the same!
    To the next show!

  7. Personally, my sales on Etsy have been going up-ish, but I do have an extensive background in online marketing and I work like a maniac promoting it. However, if I put the same amount of work as last year, I will not get the same amount of sales or hits to my site from Etsy. I got into Etsy later in the game and it does seem to get harder to get sales as time goes on and that's likely due to it being much more crowded. Renewing doesn't have the same kind of effect as it used to. Now I really focus on repeat customers and customer service and that seems to be helping.

  8. Ann < yup that's my point. I don't see why I should market like hell for a website where I pay fees to list and sell. I prefer to market like hell for my own website. (where btw I sold more than on Etsy this last month).
So far I decided to list some stuff on Etsy from time to time (people still do find me through Etsy). But not massively as before. I see how it goes, but I'm really tired of the money which goes into Etsy and for nothing.
PLUS, Americans hardly buy anything, so I think their "we go local" was a bad idea. The rare sales I get are all European (unlike on my website).
But hey, I'm not really complaining, I still can live from my work :D

  10. Yep, the going local thing isn't helping, though from my understanding I think it's mostly geared towards things like food. At least in my area it is.

I think another thing going against European makers is that the conversion really hurts you guys, especially with the dollar being so weak. On the flip side, I am seeing more European buyers because my prices are very affordable to them.

Besides, it is great to hear that sales at your own shop is better than Etsy! I'm not surprised since you are featured in a magazine every month ;-) I hope to get to that point one day!

Ann < well ahem I'm not published in a magazine every month. Pretty often, but not that much really. :D
The weak dollar is probably a turn off for us Europeans indeed. But now way I'm switching back to $, since I'd be loosing money daily.
I feel it's like starting from scratch again, and pushing people toward my new online shop. Pfeew!
